Hydro Turbines

A Hydro turbine is an element that converts the kinetic and potential energy of water to produce a movement of rotation, transferred using an axis, directly to a machine or a generator which converts mechanical energy into electrical. Regarding their mode of operation, they can be classified into two groups: Reaction turbines and Impulse turbines, Impulse turbines change the velocity of a water jet whereas Reaction turbines are acted on by water, which changes pressure as it moves through the turbine and gives up its energy. Most Hydro turbines fall into the reaction turbine category.
